This super food is bursting with energy. Properties in spinach like iron and calcium act as energy boosters throughout the day. Spinach is perfect in salads, smoothies, sandwiches and even used as stuffing in meats i.e. Salmon.
Fruits are high in glucose, the form of sugar your body uses as energy. Glucose is easily broken down in the body to allow a rapid release of energy. Always try to incorporate fruits in your diet! Whether that is by making banana with peanut butter skewers or just adding some blueberries to your yoghurt. Fruits are A MUST.
This is my breakfast must have after an intense workout! However, I also love to snack on it throughout the day. Oatmeal is low in saturated fat and high in fiber! Carbohydrates in oatmeal are stored as glycogen in the liver and muscles, which can be hydrolysed for energy. You can mix it up by adding some fruit, honey or sweetened almond milk for flavour.
4. Beans and Legumes
Black beans, red kidney beans and chickpeas all have one thing in common- they are an excellent source of energy. They are complex carbohydrates and are vital for your body to produce energy. They are also very high in protein (a vegetarian’s dream). I eat beans and legumes on a daily basis to ensure that I am fuelling my body and meeting my daily requirements. Make a pot of homemade chilli or add them to a salad, they are delicious!
